help, west high school senior desmond powell had no idea that he was going to be recognized at the school committee meeting tonight. wmur' s mike cronin explains what desmond did. mike: it was the actions that he took at this bridge in manchester that has many calling him a hero, but that is a title he is not quite comfortable with. 17-year-old desmond powell thought he was at the manchester committee meeting just to lead the pledge of allegiance, but to his surprise, the focus was on hand. mayor: i know this young man doesn' t want to be called a hero, but he is truly, truly a hero. [applause] mike: powell was recognized for saving a stranger' s life. last month, he was walking home around 9:00 at night on the
